Every plate is a small step with artificial turf. That gives your dog grip, uphill and downhill, even when it is wet. There is a separate version for the stairs at home: it locks firmly in place and rests on the step edges.

The PAWVIA dog ramp: patented, made in Germany since 2013.

The idea was simple: a ramp long enough for a shallow path, small enough for the boot. The patent for it was filed in 2011, and it has been built since 2013. Steps bent, riveted, covered and packed in our workshop. Over 3,000 dogs now walk on it: with owners of large, older or impaired dogs, dog walkers, search-and-rescue dog teams, the fire brigade and vet practices.

What dog owners ask before buying a dog ramp.

Which length do I need for my car?

Car and estate: 2.0 to 2.6 m. SUV: 2.6 to 3.2 m. Motorhome: 3.2 m. Pickup, van and high-bed vehicles: 3.8 m. With a dog crate in the boot or a high boot lip, take the longer length. The Length Finder works it out with you.

Will he really walk on it?

The ramp is shallow, and the artificial turf with its step profile gives grip: nothing slips, nothing bounces. Most dogs walk up after two or three tries. Treats help, force never.

Does it fit in my boot when collapsed?

Collapsed, the Telescope 200 measures 65 cm, the 260 70 cm, the 320 78 cm and the 380 85 cm. The ramp lies across the boot behind the back seat.

Can I also use it on the stairs at home?
